NDI Integrates the Multi-Sided Probe with its OPTOTRAK PROseries Advanced Measurement System

WATERLOO, CANADA – March 27, 2007: Today, NDI launched a new product for its premier shop floor measurement system - the Multi-Sided Probe (MSP). Now integrated with the OPTOTRAK® PROseries, the MSP addresses the growing demand for high-speed, real-time 6DOF object tracking over a large measurement volume.
A pre-calibrated, multi-faceted target configuration allows the system to continuously track the MSP as it rotates a full 360 degrees about all three axes. This advanced design offers unlimited range of motion without any off-angle restrictions. The MSP also has a convenient mounting system that requires no tools, allowing it to be easily and repeatedly attached to various objects for greater utility. The result is a truly versatile shop-floor tool with powerful capabilities.
By simply attaching the MSP to any object, such as a robot, you can track the object’s 3D position (XYZ) and orientation (roll, pitch, and yaw) in real time. Attaching the MSP to a stylus creates a lightweight, walkabout contact probe with no off-angle restrictions. Mounting the MSP to a scanner enables armless and beamless scanning for true hand-held, walkabout functionality. This multi-use capability is made possible by NDI’s Optical Tracker, which can function as both a Portable CMM and Dynamic Measuring Machine (DMM).
