Perceptron Selects NDI’s OPTOTRAK PROseries for its ScanWorks System

March 4, 2006

WATERLOO, CANADA – March 4, 2006: NDI announced today that Perceptron has integrated NDI’s advanced optical measurement system for their ScanWorks® Handheld Laser Scanning System.

The integration of NDI’s advanced digitizing probe with the ScanWorks system makes the probe capable of non-contact laser scanning. The incorporation of NDI’s solid state Optical Tracker provides operators with unrestricted freedom of movement when scanning.

"NDI is pleased to see the integration of our next-generation optical system with Perceptron's ScanWorks solution," said Paul Clausen, V.P. of Strategic Business Development at NDI. "This demonstrates the industry’s ongoing preference for optical metrology as the best way to bring real innovation to the shop floor. Now operators can move more freely and transition seamlessly between contact and non-contact scanning."

Operators can now quickly attach the ScanWorks Laser Scanner with no need for timeconsuming calibration. The end result, said Clausen, is a truly "all-in-one" portable metrology system that already sets a new benchmark for real-world performance and usability.

"Our ScanWorks platform coupled with NDI technology provides our customers with significant capability for 3D work involving CAE applications such as inspection and reverse engineering," said Rhex Edwards, Percepton's Director of Sales and Marketing for the Technology Components Group. "Users will be delighted with how easily the system can be transported, set up, and put to use on the shop floor. Their projects can be completed quickly and precisely with fewer interruptions to the workflow."

Perceptron anticipates significant interest and activity for their integrated design, as it represents the synergy of unfettered mobility and 3D data capture. Edwards points out that 3D data is increasingly being used worldwide for applications involving product development, quality improvement, benchmarking, CAD and CAE, machining, and other areas in industry and research.

"Users are demanding easy-to-use systems that take shop-floor performance to the next level," said Edwards. "The integration of NDI's optical technology with our renowned handheld laser scanner will naturally be a powerful combination to reach these users."
