Aurora 5DOF and 6DOF Sensor Coils
NDI manufactures the smallest electromagnetic (EM) tracking sensors in the world. These sensors have been designed for integration into third-party instruments where real-time tracking of tip position and instrument orientation is desired. This capability allows OEMs to give their customers the ability to perform existing procedures more efficiently and with greater confidence, all enabled by NDI EM tracking technology.
Aurora sensor coils available for use include the following 5DOF and 6DOF options.
Five Degrees-of-Freedom (5DOF) Sensors
These sensors are small allowing for many integration options. The xyz position of the sensor and two of its orientations are reported. This allows surgical instruments to be displayed in the correct anatomical context in real-time.
Aurora 5DOF Sensor, 0.5 mm x 8 mm, 2 m
Designed for integration into rigid or flexible tools where a small diameter is required. The sensor and lead wires are surrounded by a protective material which facilitates integration, (for example into needle tubes). The exceptional cost-performance ratio makes this sensor suitable for disposable tools.

Aurora 5DOF PCB Sensor, 0.8 mm x 11 mm, 2 m
The mechanical design of this sensor makes it a good choice for applications which involve robust handling and flexibility (for example in tubes or catheters). This sensor is manufactured using mass-market technologies that provide the enhanced robustness of PCB design at an excellent cost performance ratio, making it ideal for disposable tools.

Aurora 5DOF PCB Sensor, 0.8 mm x 11 mm, 0.5 m
Designed for needle integration, a portion of the lead wires coming from this sensor are embedded inside a 220 mm rigid plastic tube. At 0.8 mm in diameter, this sensor is able to be used with 18 gauge needles. The sensor is also manufactured using mass-market technologies that provide the enhanced robustness of PCB design at an excellent cost performance ratio, making it ideal for disposable tools.

Six Degrees-of-Freedom (6DOF) Sensor

Aurora Mini 6DOF Sensor, 1.8 x 9 mm, 2 m
A general purpose 6DOF sensor with a small outer diameter. This sensor is encased in a robust and rigid tube whose small diameter and short length allow for many integration possibilities. The exceptional cost-performance ratio makes this sensor suitable for disposable tools.
