NDI Celebrates 30 Years of Innovation

March 2011

WATERLOO, CANADA-- March 2011: NDI (Northern Digital Inc.), a world-leader in 3D measurement technology for medical, industrial and research applications, is celebrating 30 years of innovation during 2011.

NDI was started in 1981 by University of Waterloo graduates who were designing custom, scientific instruments for industrial measurement applications. Realizing further potential for their technology, NDI set out to design an optical motion measurement system for human movement tracking that would be used by the University of Waterloo's Department of Kinesiology. In 1983, this new product became the company's first generation of 3D, real-time optical measurement products. In 2003, NDI expanded its technological measurement options by offering electromagnetic measurement systems that enable 3D measurement in applications where line-of-sight is an issue.

Over its 30 years of operation, NDI has grown in number, knowledge and experience, winning multiple awards and producing many 3D measurement systems. Today, NDI's technologies are trusted by industry leaders and prominent researchers around the world in applications ranging from computer-assisted surgery to aeronautics; from quality inspection to human motion research.

Now a world-leading supplier of innovative, advanced spatial measurement solutions, NDI's success can be attributed to its ability to first understand the unique individual needs of customer applications and then apply technologies in new ways that help customers solve their measurement challenges. With revenue growth exceeding 30% for the fiscal year ending February 2011, over 19,000 system installations globally and growing, the company continues to build on its unique strengths in medical, research and industrial markets around the world and is excited about what technologies it will produce over the next 30 years.
