System Delivers Enhanced OEM Integration & Operative Workflow
November 27, 2013 – Waterloo, Ontario – NDI (Northern Digital Inc.), a global leading innovator and manufacturer of advanced 3D measurement tracking systems for surgical navigation and intervention, is pleased to announce the newest release of its electromagnetic (EM) tracking system, the Aurora V3.
The Aurora® V3 retains the highly accurate and reliable sub-millimetric, sub-degree 5DOF/6DOF tracking of its predecessor (the V2), while adding increased flexibility for OEM integration. The Aurora V3 provides a System Control Unit (SCU) that is half the size of the V2 system, enabling a smaller hardware footprint within OEM capital equipment. The SCU is available in two formats: enclosed and PCB.
The Aurora V3 EM Tracking System also features a redesigned Sensor Interface Unit (SIU) that provides streamlined operative workflow. The SIU now incorporates four ports, and each SCU can connect up to two SIUs, allowing for simultaneous tracking of eight 6DOF sensors or sixteen 5DOF sensors. The SIU can be further customized to support up to eight ports for maximum tracking of sixteen 6DOF sensors and thirty-two 5DOF sensors.
The Aurora V3 builds on the reputation of expert customization and integration for which NDI is known. Medical OEM customers can quickly integrate standard ‘off-the-shelf’ Aurora V3 designs into their product offerings, or customize the Aurora to meet specific equipment requirements.
“This release of the Aurora continues NDI’s tradition of providing our OEM customers with the most advanced electromagnetic tracking technology on the market,” says Scott Illsley, Director, Medical Division – Electromagnetic Products, NDI. “This new offering combined with our 3D Guidance solutions from Ascension Technology creates a full line of EM tracking options which enable some of the most accurate surgical navigation applications in medicine,” adds Illsley .
The Aurora V3 Electromagnetic Tracking System will be showcased at the RSNA Conference in Chicago, alongside the 3D Guidance product suite from NDI affiliate, Ascension Technology Corporation.
