Tracking with 3D Guidance®

The complete 3D Guidance® Electromagnetic tracking system relies on three primary components working together: An Electronics Unit, a Transmitter and Sensors.

3D Guidance® Electronics Units

The 3D Guidance Electronics Unit (EU) controls the Field Generator, gathers data, calculates sensor position and orientation and interfaces with host computer.

There are two Electronics Units options:

3D Guidance driveBAY®

The 3D Guidance driveBAY EU is an embedded electronics unit that fits into a medical OEM cart/equipment, drawing power from this source.

3D Guidance trakSTAR®

The 3D Guidance trakSTAR EU is a desktop electronics unit with an integrated power supply that provides power to the transmitter and collects data from the sensors.

3D Guidance® Transmitters

3D Guidance Transmitters emit a low-intensity, EM field for sensor detection.

There are two Transmitter options:

3D Guidance® Mid-Range Transmitter

The Mid-Range Transmitter (MRT) offers a flexible setup that can be integrated into OEM applications where the tracking volume needs to cover a larger region.

3D Guidance® Short-Range Transmitter

The Short-Range Transmitter (SRT) provides a smaller measurement volume for localized tracking. Its small, lightweight design allows the SRT to be mounted directly on third-party mobile imaging equipment, or inside OEM system surgical simulation phantoms.

3D Guidance® Sensors

The 3D Guidance system requires sensors to track the instrument. The 3D Guidance portfolio offers 5 different reusable, 6DOF sensors that come pre-wired with connectors and pre-characterized for immediate use; no assembly is required.

6DOF Sensors

Model 55

Our smallest diameter sensor, which can be embedded into very small diameter tools. This sensor has the shortest tracking range.

Model 90

Our most versatile small sensor; its sub-millimetre size allows for integration with many OEM medical instruments while providing an adequate tracking range.

Model 130

Our general-purpose sensor, which provides a good balance between sensor size, durability, and tracking range.

Model 180

A cost-effective sensor offering a strong balance of sensor size, tracking range, and price.

Model 800

Our largest, and most robust sensor. This sensor has the longest tracking range.

Model 1525

Designed to be integrated inside of instruments (eg: ultrasound probes)

3D Guidance® Development Accessories

Designed to complement the 3D Guidance® Electromagnetic tracking systems, NDI offers tools for development and training.
